Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands
Dr Lachlan Strahan
Dr Strahan is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and has served in senior roles in Canberra, including as First Assistant Secretary Multilateral Policy Division and First Assistant Secretary, South and West Asia Division. He has previously served overseas in Bonn, Seoul, New Delhi, as Deputy Head of Mission, and Geneva, as the Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Dr Strahan holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in History from Monash University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Melbourne. He has written two books, Australia’s China: Changing Perceptions from the 1930s to the 1990s, and Day of Reckoning, which traces Australia’s efforts to restore law and order in Papua New Guinea after WWII, which was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Australian history prize in 2006. He and Lily have two children, Joschka and Katya.
