Wantok Musik Singing Competition 2022 Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions

 

Competition Name

  1. The Wantok Musik Competition 2022 (the Competition) is a competition run by the Commonwealth of Australia through the Australian High Commission in Solomon Islands (the High Commission).

 

Competition Period

  1. The Competition will run from Monday, 21 November 2022 to SBT 12.00pm Friday, 9 December 2022 (Competition Period).

 

Eligibility

  1. Entry into the Competition is free and is open to:
    1. Citizens of Solomon Islands who are:
      1. Solo vocalists performing by themselves
      2.  over 18 years of age  
      3. are not signed to a record label; and
      4. reside in one of the nine provinces of Solomon Islands.
    2. Entries from duos, bands or groups of singers/performers/musicians will not be considered.
  2. Employees of the High Commission or its attached agencies, its contractors and/or their immediate family members are ineligible to enter the Competition. Immediate family member means a spouse, defacto partner, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent and/or sibling (and their spouses).
  3. The High Commission reserves the right to verify the eligibility of each Entrant and to exclude and/or disqualify any Entrant who does not meet the eligibility requirements. By entering the Competition, the Entrant warrants that he or she is eligible.

 

Entering the Competition

  1. To enter the Competition each Entrant must, during the Competition Period:
    1. Video record a culturally infused vocal performance (‘the Audition’);
    2. Provide the required entry information to the High Commission by:
      1. Joining the Wantok Musik Competition 2022 Facebook group and answer the required questions; or
      2. Email [email protected] answering the following questions:
        • What is your name (including stage name if relevant)?
        • Where do you live? (Please include village/town and Province)
        • Tell us about your music and why you would like to win this prize in 200 words or less
    3. Submit an entry to the Competition by linking a recording of the Audition to the High Commission via the Wantok Music Competition 2022 Facebook group.
  2. Each Entrant is only permitted to enter the Competition once. Entrants must be available to redeem the prize on the dates stipulated by the High Commission. If the Major Prize Winners are not able to redeem the prize on the dates stipulated, the High Commission may, at its discretion, determine another prize winner.

     

Content Criteria

  1. For an entry to be considered valid and eligible for judging it must meet the following content criteria:
    1. the Entrant must infuse an element/s of Solomon Islands culture into their Audition
    2. be an audible vocal performance of a song in a video file format able to be uploaded to Wantok Musik Competition 2022 Facebook Group.

Judging Criteria

  1. Entries will be judged by the High Commission’s judging panel on the following criteria:
    1. 30% vocal technique, tone quality, breath support, intonation, diction, articulation, rhythm and tempo
    2. 30% expression - how well the performer is able to express the meaning and mood of the song;
    3. 30% - showmanship and potential for growth and mentoring; and
    4. 10% - uniqueness of performance/artist.
  2. Entries which the High Commission determines have involved fraudulent practices, such as false email addresses or fake Facebook accounts to allow multiple entries by the same person, or any other illegitimate behaviour to gain advantage over other entrants, will be disqualified from the Competition.

 

Competition Prize(s)

  1. The best female and male entrants whose Auditions are judged by the panel of judges to be the best in 2022 will each win the Prize (Major Prize Winners).
  2. The Major Prize Winners will win:
    1. Return economy airfares for one person from the airport nearest to the Major Prize Winners home in the Solomon Islands to Honiara in January 2023. In the circumstances where travel is not feasible, possible or required by air, then return economy fares via other means of transport to Honiara will be covered.
    2. The opportunity to be mentored by Australian music label ‘Wantok Musik’ and perform at a public concert in Honiara in January 2023
    3. Up to four (4) nights accommodation in a three (3) star rating hotel in Honiara; and
    4. Payment of per diems at a rate determined by the High Commission for no more than five (5) days.
  3. The Prize is given "as is" without any warranty, and is not transferable or exchangeable for cash. The High Commission reserves the right to substitute the Prize with another prize of similar value if the original prize is not available.
  4. Unless otherwise specified in these terms and conditions, the High Commission will not be responsible for any costs associated with the award, acceptance, receipt or use of the Prize.

 

Notification and collection of Prize

  1. The High Commission will announce the winner of the Competition by tagging them on a post on the High Commission’s Facebook page or website after the end of the Competition Period.
  2. The High Commission will also notify the winner by telephone / email / private message on Facebook within two business days of announcing the result. At this time, the High Commission will seek the winner’s details (name and age) (Personal Details) and contact details, to organise collection of the Prize. The winner must provide the Personal Details and contact details within one week of the request by the High Commission.
  3. If the winner fails to provide the High Commission with his or her Personal Details and contact details within the required timeframe, the winner will forfeit the Prize and the High Commission reserves the right to select another winner, in accordance with these terms and conditions.

 

Intellectual property

  1. The Entrant warrants that his or her entry has not been copied, recreated, reproduced or derived from any other work and that the entry does not infringe on any other legal, intellectual property or privacy rights of any third party. The Entrant indemnifies and holds harmless the High Commission from any and all claims by any third party arising out of the use of the Entrant’s entry, including but not limited to claims of infringement or violation of the intellectual property or privacy rights of the third party.
  2. The Entrant grants the High Commission a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable, non-transferable, perpetual licence (including the right to sublicense) to use, modify, delete from, add to, publicly display, publish, communicate and/or reproduce, the Entrant’s entry, in whole or in part, in any medium, now or at any time in the future for any purpose.
  3. The Entrant grants the High Commission the right to use his or her Personal details, likeness, comments and/or entry for promotional purposes without payment of additional consideration, except where prohibited by law. This includes but is not limited to announcing the result of the Competition and publishing the name of the winner on the High Commission’s [Facebook page or website.

 

Privacy

  1. Personal information associated with the entry and/or winning of the Competition (including, but not limited to, the Entrant’s name and relevant social media alias) will be collected, used and disclosed (including to Facebook) by the High Commission for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes in connection with the Competition. This personal information will be stored by  the High Commission on a secure electronic database and will be destroyed once it is no longer required for these purposes. If this information is not collected, the High Commission will be unable to enter the Entrant into the Competition.   2. The Entrant acknowledges that while the High Commission will disclose this information to Facebook for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes in connection with the Competition, the Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook. The Entrant should refer to Facebook’s own privacy policy for further information as to how Facebook will handle the Entrant’s personal information. The Entrant also acknowledges that by agreeing to the High Commission disclosing their personal information to overseas recipients including Facebook, if Facebook breaches the Australian Privacy Principles, the High Commission will not be accountable under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Entrant will not be able to seek redress under that Act.

 

Indemnities

  1. The Entrant agrees to indemnify, release and hold harmless the High Commission and Facebook from any liability, damages, losses or injury resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the Entrant’s participation in the Competition and the acceptance, use or misuse of any Prize that may be won.
  2. The Entrant accepts that the Wantok Musik Competition 2022 is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook.
  3. The High Commission is not responsible for content that third parties publish, post, upload, distribute, disseminate or otherwise transmit via social media services. The High Commission accepts no liability whatsoever arising from or connected to the currency, accuracy or completeness of any material posted on social media sites or elsewhere on the internet and disclaims all responsibility for any loss or damage which may arise from the use of information provided via social media services.

 

Amendments and cancellation

  1. The High Commission reserves the right to, at its absolute discretion and without prior notice, vary, amend, delete or supplement any of these terms and conditions and the Entrant’s continued participation in the Competition amounts to acceptance of any revised terms and conditions. The Entrant should check the High Commission’s website on a regular basis for any changes to these terms and conditions. If an Entrant does not agree to a change, he or she may withdraw from the Competition by email (via [email protected]) or by direct messaging the High Commission on Facebook.
  2. The High Commission reserves the right to, for any reason and without any obligation to state a particular reason, cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition. In the event of such cancellation, termination, modification or suspension, the High Commission may at its absolute discretion elect not to award any Prize in respect of the Competition. The decision of the High Commission to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition will not give rise to any liability to pay compensation of any nature to any Entrants.
  3. The High Commission’s decision in relation to any aspect of the Competition is final and binding on every Entrant. No correspondence will be entered into.

Governing law

  1. The Competition is governed by the laws of Solomon Islands.
