AUSTRALIAN NAVY TRAINS ROYAL SOLOMON ISLANDS POLICE FORCE IN UNDERWATER WEAPONS CLEARANCE

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force is now at the forefront of regional capabilities to remove unexploded ordinance, thanks to training delivered by the Royal Australian Navy.

The RSIPF can now clear unexploded weapons from both sea and land, making the environment safer for the people of Solomon Islands.

“The training the team has received now gives us the capability to destroy unexploded ordinance under water” Senior Sergeant Rex Wairoa said.

“It was exciting to see the capability of the team enhanced over the period” said Lt Col Richard Watson, Defence Adviser to Solomon Islands.

“The team can now destroy unexploded ordinance safely to protect lives, as well as the reef and fish stocks.”
